Phoenix Futures is looking to recruit a passionate and solution focused Substance Use Practitioner at HMP Belmarsh. The role also includes responsibility for Patient Engagement and Health Promotion across the wider Healthcare service in Belmarsh. 

As a Substance Use Practitioner you will be providing harm reduction to those with substance use issues and supporting in their recovery through relapse prevention and care planning. You will also act as an advocate for these service users, signposting and referring to the necessary agencies in order to support them in their recovery holistically.

As a Substance Use Practitioner you will have knowledge of recovery, care planning and will have the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external agencies. You will be required to work directly with offenders delivering effective care-planned support using appropriate models, interventions, and approaches tailored to meet the individual needs of the client group. Previous experience of working within health, rehabilitation, treatment, and re-offending prevention services would be beneficial. 

As Patient Engagement Lead, you will ensure the patient voice and experience is heard and shared and continuously look for ways to enhance the development of patient engagement. You will work closely with patients, healthcare and prison colleagues to raise awareness of important health topics and ensure the patient is at the centre of service delivery. This role will support the prime provider PPG (Practice Plus Group) Patient Engagement National Lead to implement and embed the Patient Engagement Strategy. You will be responsible for the oversight and management of the Health Champions and Peer supporters.

HMP Belmarsh is Cat A high security establishment which also holds prisoners remanded in custody by the courts. You will be required to hold HMPS prison Vetting and in addition you will need Counter Terrorism Clearance for this role. Employment is dependent on these two checks. We will assist you in applying for these if you don’t currently hold them.

  • You will need good communication and organisational skills
  • Successful candidates will be dynamic and forward thinking.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience working with vulnerable adults presenting with substance, alcohol and associated issues.

This role may will be Monday- Friday (ever other Friday off) with occasional Saturday working as part of a rota.
